This class begins with an
introduction to The Book of Acts, its author, when it was written, and the
purpose for it being written. Next Chapter One is covered focusing on the
promise of the Holy Spirit, Jesus ascension to Heaven, the meeting in the
Upper Room, and closing with the choosing of Matthias to replace Judas.

Chapters Two and Three. The focus of Chapter Two involves the Church
becoming a dynamic witness through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit; the Holy
Spirit descending on the Day of Pentecost; and Peter’s message to the crowd
which resulted in 3,000 being added to the Church in one day. The focus of
Chapter Three involves the Church becoming a dynamic witness through miracle
power as Peter and John heal a lame man at the Gate Beautiful followed by
Peter’s preaching at Solomon’s Porch.

This class covers
Chapters Four and Five. The focus of Chapter Four involves the arrest of
Peter and John, Peter’s address before the Sanhedrin and their reaction, the
courage of the Apostles, and how the early Church shared all things. The
focus of Chapter Five involves Apostolic Authority, the Church being
threatened by deceit, the continuing of miracles, the warning by the
Sanhedrin to the Apostles not to preach in the name of Jesus, and Gamaliel’s
advice to the Sanhedrin.

This class covers
Chapters Six and Seven. The focus of Chapter Six begins with the Church
being threatened by dissension, the choosing of Seven Deacons, and finishes
with Stephen being taken before the Sanhedrin. The focus of Chapter Seven
involves the Church being threatened by martyrdom, including Stephen’s
defense before the Sanhedrin culminating with his being stoned to death as
Saul of Tarsus witnesses the event.

Overview:
This class covers
Chapters Eight, Nine and Ten. The focus of Chapter Eight begins with the
church being persecuted and dispersed and moves to Phillip preaching in
Samaria, the encounter with Simon the Sorcerer, Peter and John’s visit to
Samaria, and concludes with Phillip preaching to the Ethiopian Eunuch. The
focus of Chapter Nine is the conversion of Saul of Tarsus, Ananias being
sent to him, Saul becoming a preacher of Christ in Damascus, his escape from
a death plot there, his return to Jerusalem, and his being sent back to
Tarsus to minister followed by the church enjoying peace and prosperity.
The focus of Chapter 10 involves the story of Peter being called to
Cornelius the gentile and covers Peter’s vision, messengers being sent to
Peter from Cornelius, and Peter’s subsequent ministry at the house of
Cornelius which resulted in their salvation and receiving the baptism in the
Holy Spirit.

Overview: This class covers Chapters 11 and 12. The focus of Chapter
11 begins with Peter defending the Gentile believers and moves to showing
how persecution caused the church to grow and spread northward to Antioch
where the church there ultimately came to the aid of the church in Jerusalem
when famine came upon the land. The focus of Chapter 12 deals with Herod
Agrippa harassing the church and presents how Peter was supernaturally
delivered by angels from prison, it moves from there to the death of Herod
for blasphemy, and concludes with Barnabas and Saul taking John Mark with
them as they return to Antioch.

This class covers Chapters 14 and 15.
The focus of Chapter 14 is on the ministry of Paul and Barnabas in Iconium,
it includes their ministry in Lystra where a lame man is healed, moves on to
their ministry in Derbe, and concludes with their report to the Church in
Antioch. The focus of Chapter 15 involves trouble in Antioch as a result of
the question of circumcision, it moves to the Council at Jerusalem where
James presents a proposal for dealing with things, and concludes with Paul
and Barnabas parting company because of difference regarding John Mark.

covers Chapters 16, 17, 18, and 19. The focus of Chapter 16 involves Paul’s
second missionary tour, including Paul and Silas being imprisoned at
Philippi. The focus of Chapter 17 involves Paul’s missionary journey from
Thessalonica to Athens including his sermon on Mars Hill. The focus of
Chapter 18 involves Paul’s arrival at Corinth and concludes with the
introduction of the ministry of Apollos. The focus of Chapter 19 involves
Paul’s return to Ephesus and concludes with turmoil created by Demetrius a
craftsman upset with loosing business because of Christianity.

Overview:
This class covers Chapters 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24. The focus of Chapter 20
involves visit to Macedonia and Greece, while in Corinth to raise relief
funds for Jerusalem Paul writes his letter to the Romans. The focus of
Chapter 21 involves Paul’s journey to Jerusalem. While in Caesarea Paul is
warned by both Philip’s daughters and Agabus the prophet not to go to
Jerusalem. The chapter concludes with Paul being arrested in the Temple, at
this point his public ministry ends. The focus of Chapter 22 involves Paul
defending himself. The focus of Chapter 23 involves Paul speaking before the
Sanhedrin and includes a plot to kill him; however, the Lord appears to him
again reminding him he is still going to Rome. The focus of Chapter 24
involves Paul being brought before Felix the Roman Procurator in Caesarea
and concludes as Felix is replaced after two years by Porcius Festus.

Overview:
This class covers Chapters 25, 26, 27, and 28. The focus of Chapter 25
involves Paul being heard by Festus where he appeals to Caesar in Rome.
While he is being heard King Agrippa II and his sister Bernice visit Festus
and also hear Paul’s defense. The focus of Chapter 26 involves Paul telling
of his life before coming to Christ, his encounter with Christ, and his life
with Christ and concludes after Festus tells him he is a mad fanatic with a
private hearing with King Agrippa II. The focus of Chapter 27 begins with
Paul’s journey to Rome, includes his warning that they should not sail to
Phoenix, their being caught in a powerful northeaster, finally being
shipwrecked on the island of Malta. The focus of Chapter 28 begins on the
island of Malta where Paul is bitten by a viper. When he does not die the
natives believe he is a god. His journey to Rome continues where he is
permitted to live in his own house while soldiers guard him. While there for
two years he won many to the Lord. During this time he wrote his letter to
the Philippians. The earliest historians explicitly state that he was
released from prison and undertook further missionary labors.
